Maylyn Co

Maylyn remembers always playing outdoors as a child. Her first bike was a Barbie bicycle with pink and white streamers. Little did she know that she’d become a bicycle instructor 20 years later with no bicycle experience. At age 26, when she became the Health Educator with Santa Clara County Public Health Department’s Safe Routes to School Program, it was time to relearn to ride a bicycle. Since 2012, she’s been a League Certified Instructor encouraging all to ride but more importantly ride safely.

In her full-time work, she works as the injury prevention program coordinator in her local trauma center to reduce injuries such as falls, motor vehicle crashes and bicycle crashes. The best part of her job is educating all ages not just how to be safe on the road but to truly enjoy it.

"Children, adults and older adults learn differently.  I feel that it is important to establish a connection with each individual.

When learning to ride, don’t think, just feel.  With a little bit of work, you’ll be off pedaling with a big smile.  For me that’s the biggest reward!"

When not teaching, Maylyn is spending time with her boyfriend & family, watching the latest TV shows and movies, and reading a good mystery or rom-com book.  She’s a big fan of Disney, Panera Bread and her favorite snack is popcorn!
